Victorian restoration and detailed color work, the thing we've been known for since the '70s. Failing areas get repaired first, so the new finish has something sound to hold.

Interior painting, faux and mural work, and Italian Marmorino plaster — which we also distribute. See the samples at our studio on Founders Place.

Hot-water power washing or full sanding, then sealing — we're a Wolman certified contractor.
Most houses need one or the other, and the inspection tells us which. If you guess wrong, it costs you nothing — we'll say so.
We protect the property, prep, prime where it's needed and finish.
Text us about a repaintWe find why it failed, repair what's worth keeping, then finish it.
Text us about a restorationWhether you arrive for ski season or summer, the house should greet you finished, not mid-project.
With you or your property manager. We look at every surface, note repairs, and talk through color — the free inspection.
Every surface, the prep it gets, and the products, manufacturers, colors and finishes — in writing, so you can compare it line for line. Plus a target start and finish.
Property protected first, then repairs and finish. A final walkthrough and punch list, and a record of every product and color for next time.

Sun is stronger up here, and the south and west walls of the same house weather at different speeds. Paint that peels early usually failed before the finish coat went on: wrong coating, poor prep, or wood that never dried after washing. Another coat on top doesn't fix that.

Roger rode into Aspen on a motorcycle in 1965 to ski race and painted houses in the summers. He started Aspen Painting in the spring of 1968; the first house was Stein Eriksen's in the West End. His hiring rule since then has been to find craftspeople better than him and keep them — many of the crew have been with the company close to thirty years.

There's no single schedule. In Aspen Painting's experience, heavily exposed sides can need attention in about two years, while well-protected areas can last around ten. That's why each side of the house is evaluated separately, and you're told which surfaces need work now and which can wait.
No. Many Aspen homes are second homes, and work is commonly done while owners are away. Aspen Painting walks the property with you or your property manager first, agrees the scope and schedule in writing, and does a final walkthrough and punch list before the job is called complete.
Yes, but older houses need a different approach: original wood, plaster and trim are often worth repairing rather than replacing, and some work on designated properties may need City of Aspen review. Aspen Painting has restored Victorian homes in Aspen since 1968 and will help you find out what applies to yours.
In any home built before 1978, the EPA requires renovation, repair and painting work that disturbs paint to follow lead-safe practices by a certified firm. Most of Aspen's Victorian houses date from the 1880s. Ask Aspen Painting to show its lead-safe certification before work starts.
Early failure usually starts before the finish coat: the wrong coating for the surface, poor preparation, or painting over wood that hadn't dried after washing. Another coat on top doesn't fix it. Aspen Painting starts by finding out why the old finish failed.
Often, yes. Existing wood, siding, windows and doors can usually be cleaned, sanded, repaired, primed and refinished if the material is still sound. About 40% of Aspen Painting's projects involve correcting a past mistake or redoing poor work.
Ask any contractor who will actually be on site and who oversees the job, especially when you won't be there. Aspen Painting's crew are its own employees, many with the company close to thirty years, and we'll tell you who is running your project before work starts.
It depends on the wood and how exposed it is. Redwood and cedar often need maintenance every two to three years here, and decks that hold snow wear fastest. Aspen Painting is a Wolman certified deck contractor and will tell you which surfaces are due.
